Alliance Bible Church held its first worship service on May 23, 1982. The church was born out of the prayers of three couples living in Anchorage, Alaska, who met for two years asking God for a Christian & Missionary Alliance church in the city. In 1982, Harrison Weaver was asked by C&MA District leadership if he would be willing to leave his assignment in Montana to come to Alaska to help birth this infant church. The prayers of those people were abundantly answered! Six months after the Weaver family’s arrival, a congregation of over 20 people was meeting in its own building on the Hillside.
In 1995, ABC moved to its current home on 941 East Dowling Road, and renovated the former carpet warehouse and office building. Obtained at a reasonable price and in a strategic location in mid-town Anchorage, this non-traditional church building was remodeled to meet church needs well.
Historically, ABC has had a role in supporting other Alliance churches in the Anchorage vicinity. The church has always viewed “our space” with greater Kingdom purposes in mind, sharing the facility with other congregations and welcoming outside ministries. Currently, New Life Assembly (Samoan congregation) and New Hope Church (Hmong congregation) use the church facility for their worship gatherings.
Through the years, Alliance Bible Church has been known for its welcoming nature and family feel. Tending to the spiritual and practical needs of the people, from youngest infants to the most life-experienced saints (and all the generations in between), has been a constant priority. Biblical preaching is a strong commitment the church has maintained. With a long-standing heart for missions, ABC is dedicated to praying for and supporting missionaries actively reaching their fields.
God has sustained Alliance Bible Church for nearly 40 years. Just as the church was founded in prayer, it continues to seek God's guidance through prayer as HIS story continues to unfold our story as ABC in Anchorage, Alaska.
